Breathe, Belong, and Be
Hey hey!
In cased you missed it, just wanted to drop in your inbox to let you know that I released a new podcast episode this past Monday. It’s called Breathe, Belong, and Be…. three words that have been on my mind and heart lately, well really, for all of 2021.
Breathe… deals with my anxiety and struggle with it earlier this year. It’s still a thing in my life, and my doctor says its the #1 thing she is seeing patients for right now… and you thought it was, Covid right? Nope. It’s anxiety.
You guys, I’ve learned how to manage my anxiety… Not just treating the symptoms and taking a pill to make them go away, but I’m talking about doing the inner work to process and work through those feelings of overwhelm in my life. It’s learning how to renew my mind when it comes to those toxic thoughts of “I can’t do this” and “What is wrong with me?” and remind myself that I am an overcomer, and I am made whole in Christ. I can be at peace no matter what type of chaos is going on around me.
It’s way more than just applying a band-aid of scripture to a situation and thinking that’s enough. That’s what I used to do— I would find an applicable scripture to what I was dealing with, and that was that. Nothing changed. What we really must do is meditate on scripture and change our thinking to make it line up with that scripture. We have to keep coming back to it, over and over again to develop the new roots and pathways in our brains. It’s biblical, and it’s also science. It takes 63 days, and this process is something I talk about in this episode. It’s too good for me to not share it with you. If anxiety is the #1 treated thing right now, then chances are - you need this too.
The word Breathe in this episode also refers to self-care. No, it’s not us escaping from our responsibilities and coming back to our life even more overwhelmed than before because things are even more out of hand than they were before we left — No. it’s instead doing something that’s going to help us get ahead… Something that our future self will thank us for. It’s something that will help us to feel refreshed this afternoon or tomorrow or next week. Sometimes self-care means taking the time to sit down and update our budget to make financial plans for this pay period. Sometimes self care is taking the time to make a meal plan for this week or month. Self care can be taking time to jot things down in your calendar and think through you ideal schedule.
Self care can even be taking time to Sabbath - to rest and refresh because your body and mind need to take a break and recharge too. So maybe self-care does mean to stop doing all the productive things for a moment… because rest, really can be productive too. Remember Sabbath not also means to cease and to stop, but also to celebrate. It’s taking time to enjoy the efforts that you’ve put into work all week. It’s a time to be grateful and feel blessed, at ease… to see what the Lord has done and be mindful of it.
Setting up self-care strategies is something I teach in my online course and in personal one-on-one consultations. I want to show you how to find that balance you’re looking for… how to manage your life well so that you feel like you can take a break to recharge and reset and to sabbath. It’s So Important, you guys, but if you don’t have good routines and systems in place, it can be hard to find the time for this. I really want to help you! I want to work with you to set up your ideal, optimal day… the day that’s going to work with your schedule, align with your core values, and help you balance all of the responsibilities that God has given you to manage and steward well for His glory.
